Hiring a Wedding Planner is a Really Good Decision

Over the last seven years in the wedding industry we’ve learned a few things. After shooting scores of weddings we’ve seen some wedding days go off without a hitch and we’ve seen some wedding days completely fall apart when something unexpected came up… Oh man, do we have some stories!

When we reflect on everything we’ve learned there is one lesson that shines through above the rest: hiring a wedding planner is a really, really, really good decision.

Here the thing, something on your wedding day won’t go the way you imagined it would. Whether it’s a vendor who shows up late, a family member to forgot to bring something important, a emcee who has one too many drinks, or maybe the Manitoba skies decide to open up with rain on your outdoor ceremony. When these unexpected things happen someone is forced to respond. The role of a wedding planner is to step into these situations and make peace where there is chaos.

A perfect example of this came in June of 2018, at Courtney and Calvin’s wedding while we were working with Andrea from Soirée Event Planning. After a beautiful morning of sun and celebration, the wedding ceremony was expected to start. However, like clockwork, right before the ceremony commenced the rain started to pour. As the downpour got heavier, tensions started to rise. Everything that had been planned was slowly washing away in the down pour. This is when Andrea proved her worth. Without missing a beat she moved cocktail hour to before the ceremony instead of after, bringing guests inside to enjoy each other’s company. Andrea altered the itinerary and decided to wait out the storm instead of moving the ceremony indoors to “stay on schedule.” It was the best move ever. Within that hour the storm blew over and the chairs were wiped down, the ceremony took place outside! While this was the only wedding we ever had to shoot barefoot, being outside was completely work it.

This is a small example of how a wedding planner can save your butt when things don’t go as planned. Winnipeg has some incredible event planners and we believe that you’d do good to take on their services!
